Chantilly’s baby pink packaging aesthetics, and delicate lace print, suggest a subtle girlie number that would more than likely ooze a sweet, floral accord. It’s a stereotypical characteristic of fragrances with such feminine décor, however, Chantilly promises more than just a pretty overture, and fairs more as a subtly spicy oriental than anything so chintzy. Chantilly’s almost diamond-esque bottle harks back to a bygone era of glamor, when such pieces held equal precedence for ornamental value, on the dressers of the upper-class. Warmed by a distinctive sandalwood base, Dana Classics Chantilly boasts the grounding earthen notes of oakmoss, which are usually characteristic of ‘chypre’ scents, yet are also often used within orientals to influence a rustic, carnal base note. Chantilly’s evocative accord also blossoms with a hint of citrus and jasmine; both decidedly sweet, yet mellow top notes, that add a refreshingly zingy accord, to an already spicy musk. Despite the intentionally dated aesthetics, which somehow fit with the overall demureness of Chantilly; the fragrance is provocatively playful, and far less powdery than one would associate with such pinkness. Many of her fans describe the accord to be a complexity of smoke, leather and woody notes, combined with a very subtle creaminess – no doubt the culmination of rose and jasmine, which are sometimes likened to strawberries and cream. Newbies to the fragrance are also surprised at the crispness of the first blast, and concur that the dry down is every bit as exciting as the zesty introduction.

In comparison to modern orientals, Chantilly exceeds both expectation, and note quality. Many emphasize too greatly the spicy undertones for definition, whereas the sillage associated with Chantilly can be firmly distinguished by three separate note layers.
