Bookworms! What dark fairy tale novels can you recommend?

I just finished Perfume by Patrick Süskind and loved it!

If you want to read really dark fairy tales, go back to the originals. The Brothers Grimm’s fairy tales were really gory and dark. And Hans Christian Anderson’s version of The Little Mermaid is very very dark indeed.
